With reference to my Despatch No. 36 of the 28th February, I transmit to you herewith the Queen's Warrant for the appointment of Mr. Edward Wallow Goodlake to be Police Magistrate for the Colony of Hong Kong.

The Crown Agents for the Colonies have been instructed to pay to Mr. Sandnes the Chief Clerk of my Office, the sum of £100 on account of Salary, and also the price of the Stamp on the enclosed Warrant; and Mr. E. W. Goodlake will call on you to repay this amount into the Colonial Treasury.
